This is a perfect starting point to discover the Western Tien Shan Mountains, and both flora and fauna resources it contains.

Over 1250 species of plants grow in the park, 47 of which are registered in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstan part of the Ugamsky Ridge is a combination of unique natural complexes with historic monuments of the Great Silk Way medieval culture. There are many cultural, historic and natural sights in the Ugamsky region.

In the Kaskasu village a number of ancient Saxony barrows and sacred places such as the Shilter, the Zhilagan Ata, the Aitas, the Burkut uiya, the Silbily and the Susyngen Lake are located. They have connection with many legends and real historical events. The history revives itself in many preserved traditional craft workshops. Here you can get some souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

Be bold and try the unknown. You will be sure of a warm welcome with local food. Ugam range is a general geographic name of the region in Tole bi district of South Kazakhstan region. Ugam is a mountainous region of the Western Tien Shan (Ugam range), it is part of Sairam-Ugam National Park.

Development of Community-based Ecotourism started here in 2005 with the support of TACIS, KTA and VSO. More than 10 tour routs were developed to show you the beauty of Ugam range.

Getting There & Around
Kaskasu is easily accessible by overnight train from Almaty. Leaving at 17.19 and arriving at 8.30 the next morning, a taxi can be arranged to take you to your homestay. Alternatively there are buses available .A visit to Kaskasu could be combined with a trip to Zhabagly.

Or, if Turkistan wets your appetite, why not combine with a visit to Samarkand Taxis are available in Shymkent to take you to the Uzbekh border, 120 km away. Then it is only about a half hour trip to Tashkent. (Visas will be needed for visits to Uzbekhistan, so check with the embassy in your country).
