Visiting the Area
Allow several days to visit, as, after strenuous walking, the charm of the Altai mountain range will delight you in to wanting to linger longer. If you are still feeling energetic and adventurous, there are opportunities for white water rafting on the Chornaya Uba river (which translates to Black River) and Belaya Uba river (which translates to White River). If you have tired of walking, let a horse take your weight.

Getting There & Around
Ridder is accessible from Ust-Kamenogorsk.
You can get to Ust-Kamenogorsk from Almaty by train. It is advised to leave the train at Jangiz Tobe Station and take a taxi from there to Ust-Kamenogorsk.

Trains (Almaty-Semipalatinsk) leave from Almaty 2 railway station everyday at 7:50pm and arrives at Jangiz Tobe the next day at 11:28am. In Jangiz Tobe you can take one of the taxis that are near the railway station, or take a bus to Ust-Kamenogorsk. From Ust- Kamenogorsk bus station you can take a bus to Ridder (3-hour drive), which leave every hour, or you could also take a taxi.
