Before it disappeared in 1963 as a result of a terrible sel, the lake was rightfully considered a pearl of Zaili Alatau.

Now the lake is partly re construcsted. Not far from the lake you can see beautiful rocks called Kremlin wall. The road goes through the places where the “Golden Man” – the symbol of Kazakhstan – was found.

Fantastic Castle Valley of the canyon of river Charyn will open the world of marvelous rock-towers made of red sandstone, the age of which is 10-12 million years.

Just 15 km from the city lays Alma-Arasan gorge. In it there is a hydrogen sulfide spring (the famous sanatorium – Alma-Arasan resort). It is the most popular place for rest of Almaty population. In winter you can sledge and in summer horse-riding routes are interesting.

The Kolsay lakes are one of the treasures of the Northern Tien-Shan. These three mountain lakes, set among steep pine-clad slopes, nestle in a spur of the Kungey Alatau.

This is a wonderful place for hiking, camping, pony-trekking and mountain biking. The lowest lake, at a height of 1818 m, stretches for 1 km. It is accessible by road and there are comfortable guesthouses and campsites.

The middle Kolsay Lake (2252 m), the largest and most beautiful, is 5 km from the first lake. The highest of the Kolsays is 4 km further and 600 m higher up. After another 6 km you reach the Sary-Bulak Pass (3278 m) on the Kyrgyzstan border, with superb views over the blue Lake Issyk-Kul.

Weekend trips include only Kolsai lake 1 and Kolsai lake 2.

In Tamgaly you will see rock paintings created by old painters and open one more page of history for yourself.
